Diego (CCSD) offers:
Medical Assistant
The overall objective of this program is to prepare the
student for an entry-level position in the medical field as
a front and/or back office assistant. Positions are
available in clinics, hospitals and doctor’s offices. Upon
successful completion of the training, the graduate will be
able to perform EKG, prepare strips for evaluation, perform
venipuncture; collect specimens; collect patient data;
perform vital signs, CPR, and First Aid; perform simple lab
tests (Urinalysis, Hematocrit); prepare patients for
physical examinations; and assist physicians in minor
surgeries. Anatomy & Physiology along with Medical
Terminology will be emphasized.
Students will complete a 128 hour externship, where they
receive actual "on-the-job" training, working with other
medical professionals, and providing care to "real"
patients. Students are employed in front and back office
jobs, working in Doctor Offices, Clinics, and Hospitals.
Computer Business Applications
This program prepares students for employment in Office
Administration. Students learn a broad array of computer
skills, that make them a solid, contributing member of any
office. Upon successful completion of the training, the
graduate will be able to operate a computer terminal by
using word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation
and personal information management programs. The graduate
will apply commands using computer hardware to enter, store,
retrieve, edit, format or delete data; perform any
combination of the following clerical tasks: type or create
correspondence or business documents; use table, tab, and/or
column formatting to organize information; sort, file and
retrieve records
Students will complete a 128 hour externship, where they
receive actual "on-the-job" training, working with other
office professionals, and providing care to "real"
customers. Some of the industries that have hosted externs
for this program are insurance companies, government
agencies, transit companies, sales organizations, dentists,
chiropractors and community organizations.
Medical Billing
This course provides the students with the basic knowledge
and skills that will qualify them
to work as an entry-level
Medical Biller, performing the front office duties as a
medical clerk working in the clinics/hospitals/medical
groups, and also as a health claim examiner working with the
insurance companies. Students will be exposed to billing
forms, eligibility guidelines for Medicare, Medicaid/Medi-Cal,
and billing procedures for CHAMPUS, Blue Shield/Blue Cross,
and Workers’ Compensation. Students will learn the use of
ICD-9 and CPT books for coding diagnoses and procedures.
Students will use computers to perform medical billing
simulated practice using Medi-Soft and Medical Manager.
